The Lawrence Anthony Earth Organisation rescued the 5 cubs from private breeders and roadside zoos in Ukraine. To relocate the 5 cubs was quite expensive and it had to be done in a tight time frame. Mazda SA donated the final amount needed to relocate the cubs after hearing about their plight on a local radio station, Jacaranda FM’s “Good Morning Angels” program, and also supplied the vehicles to transport the cubs from OR Tambo International Airport to Ubuntu wildlife Sanctuary.

Thamba, Thandi and Ntombi arrived at Ubuntu during November 2018 as young cubs. The Ubuntu team became was made aware of their plight, having been rejected by their mother and the owner indecisive about their future. On lion breeding farms, young lionesses get pregnant at a too young age, and then does not know what to do with her cubs.
